Hello, world! We’re RaeRae and Bo, a Black queer couple living, loving, and laughing our way through life in beautiful Belgium. Belgium, known for its delicious waffles, decadent chocolates, and world-class beer, has been our home for the past few years. But it’s not just the gastronomic delights that make this place special. It’s the cobblestone streets that echo with history, the vibrant festivals that fill the air with music, and the warm, welcoming people that truly make Belgium feel like home.
Living as a Black queer couple in Belgium has its unique challenges and triumphs. From finding the best hair salon for our natural curls to navigating the dating scene, our journey is filled with stories that are sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant, but always real. We believe in the power of representation and hope that our stories can inspire, educate, and entertain.

Belgium: a quirky and sometimes complicated compromise
Belgium is a country of contrasts. The bustling city life in Brussels, the calm serenity of the Ardennes, the vibrant cultural scene in Antwerp, and the historic charm of Bruges – there’s something for everyone here. As a couple, we’ve had the chance to explore these diverse landscapes, each offering a unique backdrop to our love story.
One of our favorite pastimes is trying to remember the myriad of Belgian beers. With over 1,000 varieties, it’s a never-ending adventure! We’ve spent many a weekend in cozy pubs, laughing over a shared inside joke, clinking our cocktail glasses, and making memories. And let’s not forget the food – from crispy frites to creamy carbonnade flamande, Belgian cuisine is a delightfully surprising journey for the taste buds.
But life in Belgium isn’t just about the beer and waffles (although they are a significant part!). It’s about the connections we’ve made, the community we’ve found, and the love we share. As a Black queer couple, we’ve faced our share of challenges. But we’ve also found acceptance, support, and a sense of belonging that has made our journey worthwhile.
We’ve learned to navigate the language barrier (did you know they speak three languages here?), braved the unpredictable weather (always carry an umbrella!), and discovered the joy of ‘gezelligheid’ – a Dutch word that encapsulates the heartwarming feeling of comfort, coziness, and togetherness. It’s these little things that make our Belgian adventure so special.
