Why Flaxseed Gel is a Must-Try for Afro Hair Flaxseed gel is becoming a staple in natural hair care, especially for those with afro-textured hair. Let’s delve into what makes it so special.

Rich in Nutrients for Hair Growth – Packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, flaxseeds promote healthy hair growth, nourishing your scalp and hair follicles from within.

Hydration and Moisture for Curls – Afro hair thrives on moisture, and flaxseed gel is a champion in providing hydration without weighing down your curls.

Natural Curl Definition – Achieve naturally defined curls without the crunchiness often associated with other styling products, thanks to flaxseed gel.

Soothing Scalp Care – Flaxseed gel’s anti-inflammatory properties are perfect for soothing the scalp, reducing dandruff, and promoting overall scalp health.

Eco-Friendly Hair Care Option – In our journey towards more sustainable living, flaxseed gel stands out as an environmentally friendly choice for hair care.

Flaxseed Gel vs. Commercial Hair Products
Why choose flaxseed gel over other commercial hair care products? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Natural Ingredients Over Chemicals: Many commercial hair products are laden with chemicals that can be harsh on our delicate curls. Flaxseed gel, on the other hand, is all-natural, ensuring you’re not exposing your hair to unnecessary chemicals.
  • Cost-Effective Hair Care: Creating your own flaxseed gel is not only affordable but also a fun DIY project that benefits your hair.
  • Customizable for Your Hair Needs: Tailor your flaxseed gel by adding ingredients like aloe vera or essential oils to meet your specific hair care needs.

The Ultimate Flaxseed Gel Recipe for Afro Hair
Get ready to transform your hair care routine with this simple yet effective flaxseed gel recipe, perfect for afro hair.

Ingredients:

  • 600ml water
  • Slightly more than 1/4 cup of flaxseed
  • 1 teaspoon eucalyptus oil
  • 1 teaspoon tea tree oil

Instructions:

  1. Boil and Simmer: Boil the water, add flaxseeds, reduce heat, and simmer until it thickens or for about 10 minutes. Keep stirring the mixture and checking for a trail of gel to hang off the spoon you use for mixing.
  2. Strain the Gel: You can use a cheesecloth, even a pair of fine tights or fine strainer to obtain the gel. Now my secret trick is to strain the flaxseed gel mixture through a strainer into a bowl whilst it’s hot. Be careful to not burn yourself though! I let the flaxseed sit in the strainer for an hour, giving enough time for all the gel to form in the bowl. It also gives it enough time to cool down.
  3. Add Essential Oils: Mix in eucalyptus and tea tree oils (10 drops each) for their antibacterial benefits.
  4. Storage: Keep the gel in an airtight container or put it directly into an applicator and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
